Cooling Fans Needed for Homebound Seniors

The Mercury’s Rising

This week we’ve seen a string of record-high temperatures in the Portland metro area, and the upcoming weekend is forecast to be even hotter. For most of the city, heat waves are a temporary discomfort, but for frail, home-bound seniors without air conditioning, persistent high temperatures pose a life-threatening risk.

Portland’s Meals on Wheels People serves this vulnerable community through nutritional assistance and socialization and they’re asking community members to donate cooling fans to help help keep these seniors cool in the oppressive heat. Fans can dropped off at their headquarters at 7710 SW 31st Ave in Portland or at any of their 32 meal sites in Multnomah, Washington and Clark counties.

Elite Care Donates Fans

As a partner and supporter of Meals on Wheel’s People, and of the northwest senior community, Elite Care last week donated 15 brand new fans to help keep this needy group safe this summer. Elite Care urges our Team Members, and Resident families to donate fans if they can, and to regularly check up on the health of seniors you know who may be at risk.
